Diversity in Uttarakhand
Like the diverse landscape of India, there is diversity in climate and weather also. The climate in India varies from the Himalayas in the North to the tropics in the South. India experiences four seasons in a year.
Winters
It is the cold season that starts in December and ends in February.
Summers
Also known as the pre-monsoon season, begins in March and ends in May-June. During this season, the temperature generally is on the higher side.
Monsoons
This is the third season, basically the rainy season which begins in June and lasts till September.
Autumn
Also referred to as post-monsoon season that starts from October and lasts till November. These two months are generally cloudless with cool temperatures.

In Rainfall
Almost the whole of India experiences rainfalls, which is sometimes excessive in a few regions. While the areas of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir and Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh, which falls under rain shadow area, receives very little rainfall. So, monsoons are considered the ideal time to visit these two places.
In Summer
The temperature in the Himalayan region is cool and pleasant , making it favourable to spend your vacations.
In Autumn
Most of the regions in India have clear skies and, the weather remains cool and pleasant. So, it is considered the best time to visit any part of India.
In Winter
As November arrives, the winter season begins and, the temperature starts falling in most of the places in India. It is the time when the Himalayan region starts receiving snowfalls. Winter is considered the best time for foreign travellers who want to explore those parts of India other than the higher Himalayas.
Climate and Weather in Uttarakhand
Like the rest of India, Uttarakhand also has four main seasons. Although Uttarakhand is such a place that can be visited throughout the year, one should avoid travelling to the hills during monsoons as many times, rainfalls are in excess in the whole state.
Monsoons are sometimes extreme in Uttarakhand as the state receives excessive rainfall. But, the lower regions like Dehradun, Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Nainital can be visited in monsoons as well. One gets to see the best views of the mountains and clouds in these areas.
Winters in Uttarakhand can be bitterly cold in certain parts of the state but it also equally contributes to the charm of the beautiful spots. However, few places experience sub-zero temperatures and are shut for the public during winter seasons.
Uttarakhand can be easily visited from mid-September till the mid of June. However, the best time to visit the state is from mid-September will November end and from mid-February till mid-June. The weather remains pleasant during this time and the scenic views are pretty awesome.
