About Yammunotri

Yamunotri Pilgrimage Journey

Dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, Yamunotri Temple marks the starting point of the Char Dham Yatra, initiating the sacred pilgrimage journey.

Perched at an altitude of 10,606 feet, Yamunotri Temple is dedicated to the River Yamuna, regarded as the holiest river after the Ganga. As one of the four sacred shrines of the Char Dham Yatra, it draws thousands of devoted pilgrims each year.

A visit to Yamunotri Temple is considered highly auspicious, especially taking a dip in the sacred River Yamuna, which is believed to protect against untimely death. Inside the temple, devotees can witness the revered black stone idol of Goddess Yamuna, adorned with intricate carvings. Nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas, this temple holds great significance for Hindus across the country.

About Gangotri

Divine Gangotri Temple

The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is one of the sacred shrines included in the Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand.

The Gangotri Temple is deeply revered as a place of worship for Goddess Ganga in her earthly form as the sacred river. Nestled amid the towering Himalayas, its serene white structure stands out against the dense forests, creating a tranquil atmosphere. About 19 km from the temple lies Gaumukh, the origin of the holy Ganga River, emerging from the Gangotri Glacier.

The Ganga River holds immense significance in Hinduism and is regarded as the holiest of all rivers by devotees. It is believed that bathing in its sacred waters washes away sins and leads one toward salvation.

About Kedarnath

Sacred Lord Shiva Shrine

A key shrine of the Char Dham Yatra, Kedarnath Temple is a revered pilgrimage site in Uttarakhand dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Kedarnath Temple is one of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas, revered shrines where Lord Shiva is believed to have manifested. According to legend, Shiva appeared here in his bull form while evading the Pandavas, who later built the temple to honor the sacred site. Perched at an altitude of 11,745 feet, Kedarnath stands as one of the highest Shiva temples in the Garhwal Himalayas.

In addition to being a key shrine in the Char Dham Yatra, Kedarnath Temple is also a significant site in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit of Uttarakhand. Drawing thousands of devotees each year, it remains one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage destinations.

About Badrinath

Lord Vishnu’s Abode

The Char Dham Yatra, starting at Yamunotri Temple, proceeding through Gangotri and Kedarnath, culminates at the sacred Badrinath Temple.

Nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas, Badrinath Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, also known as Lord Badrinarayan. The temple houses a black stone idol of Vishnu, accompanied by an idol of Garuda, his divine mount. Believed to have been established in the 9th century by Guru Adi Shankaracharya, a revered Vedic scholar and teacher, the temple holds immense spiritual and historical significance.

A statue honoring him is also present at the temple. As one of the most significant Hindu pilgrimage sites, Badrinath Temple is not only spiritually revered but also visually stunning, situated along the banks of the Alaknanda River with the majestic Himalayas as its backdrop.

Best Time for Chardham Yatra

The Chardham Yatra follows a pilgrimage visit to the four holy temples of the Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath in the Garhwal Himalayan region.

Nestled in the majestic Himalayas of Uttarakhand, the Char Dham temples remain open from April to early November. Due to heavy winter snowfall and challenging terrain, they close for the season, making travel impossible.

The best time to undertake the Char Dham Yatra is during April, May, June, September, October, and November, when the weather is most favorable. Uttarakhand experiences heavy rainfall and landslides in July and August due to the monsoon, making travel unsafe during these months.
